Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Production Technician with a well‑organised, practical approach and a friendly, outgoing personality to join our aseptic production team. The role provides extensive experience and training in an environment that produces doses prepared under Section 10 exemption and under a Specials Manufacturing Licence.
Qualified individuals must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician or a Science Manufacturing Technician with post‑qualification experience in aseptic manufacture in a hospital pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
Assist and deputise for the Lead Production Technicians in the day‑to‑day delivery of Aseptic Services in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and nationally agreed standards. Assist in aseptic training and assessment of new technicians and assistants, and provide a high‑quality, safe service to patients.
The role will include leading a small team in our chemotherapy and PN/CIVAs units, training a variety of staff, and being a guardian of GMP.
Person specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
* NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 plus an accredited underpinning knowledge (e.g., BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, SMT qualification or equivalent)
* Registered Technician with the GPhC or registered SMT
* Leeds University Aseptic Preparation of Medicines – short course
Experience
* Demonstrated pharmacy practice experience, including relevant experience in pharmacy production aseptic dispensing.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to clearly and accurately complete complex routine and non‑routine documentation.
* Good computer skills: Email, Word processing, Spreadsheet.
* Understanding of the context of hospital pharmacy within the NHS.
* Experience of managing a small project.
Communication
* Effective communication of information using clear written and spoken English, overcoming barriers to understanding.
Personal and People Development
* Portfolio demonstrating competence of previous and current pharmacy practice skills and knowledge, and CPD; applicants should bring this to interview.
