The GI Surgery Department are looking for an Assistant Performance and Operations Manager (APOM) to join their team. This is an exceptional opportunity to take on a challenging, high profile role within the Division of Surgery. Based in the Bristol Royal Infirmary, the post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the GI Surgery Department. Working with the Performance & Operations Manager, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role leading a team of administrators, whilst working closely with clinical & management teams.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will ideally have an operational background working within healthcare and have the ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients. They should demonstrate strong leadership skills, positivity, resilience and enthusiasm. A proven track record in delivering service improvements would be advantageous and a passion to improve patient care is essential. In return, you can expect to work in a fast-paced environment, working with a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff, in a role which is challenging but rewarding.

Working closely with the Performance & Operations Manager, Deputy Performance & Operations Manager and clinical and administrative teams, to ensure capacity is fully and flexibly utilised to treat patients, to ensure both clinical requirements and Trust service objectives are achieved. This role will take part in the patient-flow arrangements in the Division and work to achieve aims of the Trust-wide Patient Flow projects.

* Flexible working practices to meet demands of service
* Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them

* Proven ability of data manipulation and creating reports from complex data


Knowledge & Experience

* Experience of managing a range of staff and adhering to HR Process
* Experience of motivating and developing a team
* Experience of managing complaints and incidents to resolve in a timely manner
* Proven experience of formally training and managing staff performance
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and liaising with key stakeholders to drive continued service improvements
* NHS or public sector experience
* Knowledge of targets and KPI for elective and urgent patient care
