A vital support role with real career progression

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate animal lover to join our friendly team as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA). This is a rewarding, hands-on role at the heart of the practice, supporting our vets and nurses while helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients, clients and colleagues.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in organisation, cleanliness and teamwork, and who is keen to build a long-term career in veterinary practice.

The Role

As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a crucial supportive role, helping the practice run smoothly while ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, safety and patient comfort.

This role includes a significant cleaning and infection-control element; however, this is an essential part of patient care and provides a strong foundation for learning clinical skills within a veterinary environment.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided, and we actively encourage development within the role.

Career Progression

We are committed to supporting our PCAs in their professional development. Many of our Patient Care Assistants choose to:

• Progress and develop further within the PCA role, taking on increased responsibility and skill development

• Progress into training as a Student Veterinary Nurse, a pathway successfully followed by many of our current and former PCAs

We actively support internal progression and are proud to grow our veterinary nurses from within our own team.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintaining excellent infection control and cleanliness throughout the practice

• Preparing, cleaning and maintaining patient accommodation

• Supporting vets and nurses with patient handling and restraint

• Monitoring, recording and providing supportive care to patients under direction

• Assisting with diagnostic processes, including preparation of equipment and handling samples (once trained)

• Maintaining theatre areas, including cleaning, preparation and sterilisation of equipment (once trained)

• Supporting pharmacy management, including stock handling, stock rotation and temperature monitoring

• Assisting with end-of-life care, treating patients with dignity and supporting owners' wishes

• Keeping workspaces tidy, organised and well stocked

• Prioritising tasks effectively to support the wider team

About You

• A genuine animal lover with a caring, respectful approach

• Proud of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation

• Reliable, motivated and keen to learn

• A strong team player with a supportive attitude
