Overview
AECOM's thriving Streets team, part of our Transportation Business Line, is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Engineer to join our team in Birmingham.
Responsibilities
* Provide design and technical input on a wide range of transportation and traffic engineering projects, taking a leading role in the development of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
* Lead the design and delivery of Road, Traffic Engineering, Active Travel and urban realm schemes.
* Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports and specifications.
* Ensure all work meets project briefs, design standards and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
* Delegate and coordinate tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
* Manage project timelines, budgets and quality standards.
* Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
* Report regularly to the Project Manager on progress and risks.
Qualifications & Experience
* Self‑motivated individual with strong background in Roads, Active Travel, Traffic Engineering, Walking, Cycling, Bus priority and Traffic calming.
* Experience in scoping, preliminary and detailed design of Roads, Active Travel and Traffic Engineering schemes.
* Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions and carriageway improvements.
* Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, MCHW, LTN 1/20 and the CDM Regulations.
* A relevant degree and working towards Chartered status with a recognised Professional Institution or have equivalent industry experience.

* Experience mentoring junior staff and leading technical teams.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver projects within budget and schedule while maintaining high quality standards.
