Job Purpose:
To provide safe, caring, and reliable escort support during school transport for children with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and vulnerable adults. The role involves working alongside a driver to ensure passengers are transported to and from school or care settings safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Escort children and/or vulnerable adults with special needs during daily school runs.
* Ensure the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of all passengers at all times.
* Assist with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, including securing seat belts and any necessary mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs).
* Maintain professional and compassionate communication with passengers, families, schools, and transport staff.
* Monitor passenger behaviour and provide support in accordance with individual care or behaviour plans.
* Report any incidents, concerns, or issues promptly to the relevant authority (e.g., transport coordinator or safeguarding lead).
* Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local authority policies.
* Maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity of all passengers.
* Conduct pre-journey checks related to passenger requirements (e.g., medication, special equipment, or behaviour needs).
Requirements:
Essential:
* Compassionate, patient, and responsible attitude.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work with children and adults with a range of special needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities.
* Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality principles.
* Ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
* Reliability and good timekeeping.
* Ability to work split shifts (morning and afternoon).
Desirable:
* Previous experience working with SEN children or vulnerable adults.
* Basic first aid training.
* Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete).
* Enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) – required for the role.
Training & Support:
Full training and induction will be provided, including safeguarding, health and safety, and passenger assistance protocols. Ongoing support and refresher training will also be available.

Contract length: 37-38 weeks
Pay: £12.21 per hour
Expected hours: 12 – 30 per week
