Job Summary
The Finance Military Operations (FinMilOps) team provides a TLB finance service responsible for offering financial advice, business intelligence, support, and assurance across military operational spend against budgets. This includes spending in PJHQ, MAB, DI, DD, and DOB, tailored to operational contexts with considerations for speed, non-standard requirements, and OpSec.
This G7 BME role manages operational teams overseeing daily operations across BME, including Contingent Ops and Crisis response. Responsibilities include financial advice, system and procedure maintenance, expenditure scrutiny, in-year management, and forecasting. The role involves financial risk communication and supports the PJHQ costing team in rapid costings across theatres.
Accountable to G6 Global Ops & Hd FBP in PJHQ, the role supervises four reports and liaises with in-country CivSecs and finance services, especially during crises. Deputising for Hd FBP FinMilOps and liaising with CJO when needed are also key. The role demands advanced finance partnering skills and knowledge of costing, suited for a high-calibre candidate aiming to impact a fast-paced environment.

Job Description
Day-to-day Financial Management of Ops
* Timely delivery of FRNs and Financial Approval Notes for HMT approval, engaging stakeholders for proper financial mechanisms.
* Review and challenge relevant financial documents to ensure VfM and proper charging.
* Accurate forecasting aiming for a final outturn within +/-1% of the initial forecast, coordinating with forecasting teams.
* Identify and escalate financial risks and opportunities per operation.
Overseeing the Costing Cell
* Promote team visibility and early engagement from divisions on costing requirements.
* Ensure realistic costs and awareness of limitations or risks.
* Manage crisis response costs, ensuring timely capture and reporting, liaising on funding sources.
* Drive process improvements for risk and assumption capturing.
Leadership and Management
* Communicate team aims and align with departmental goals.
* Empower and develop the team, fostering a supportive environment and knowledge sharing.
* Oversee deployed CivSec team resource and effectiveness, ensuring continuity.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Engage with FLCs and HLB divisions to manage operational spend and financial requirements.
* Report through quarterly reviews.
Change and Continuous Improvement
* Lead change initiatives and promote continuous service improvements.
* Use data insights for strategic decision-making and service enhancement.
Person Specification
Essential
* CCAB/CIMA qualification.
* Highly organized, strong communication, stakeholder relationship skills, problem-solving initiative.
* Knowledge of forecasting, planning, costing, governance, and transactional processes.
* Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Oracle systems.
* Regular presence in Northwood, with potential theatre visits post-training.
Desirable
* Understanding of MOD/UKStratCom operations.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities with judgment and initiative.
* Self-starter with strategic independence.
