Role: Head of School – Engineering and Motor Vehicle – Internal Only
Location: Tresham College – Corby Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £46,350 and £59,999 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 35 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Local Government Pension Scheme, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About the role:
We are currently seeking a Head of School for Engineering and Motor Vehicle to join our Engineering department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Head of School, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Strategic Leadership - Provide visionary leadership and management across the designated School, aligning curriculum design and delivery with local needs and TBCG’s strategic goals to ensure high aspirations for all students.
2. Curriculum & Quality - Develop and implement a high-quality, well-sequenced curriculum; ensure teaching and learning activities meet TBCG standards and statutory requirements, while promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
3. Team Management & Development - Lead and manage Programme Managers and staff, ensuring performance, accountability, and professional growth through effective appraisals, mentoring, and succession planning.
4. Operational Oversight - Manage budgets, timetabling, compliance, and business planning; ensure statutory obligations are met and that all team members are supported, well-trained, and effectively deployed.
5. College-Wide Engagement - Represent the School internally and externally, contribute to cross-campus activities, and uphold TBCG values through participation in safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and staff development initiatives.
About you:
6. Qualifications & Knowledge - Holds a Level 7 qualification or equivalent experience, a recognised teaching qualification, and strong understanding of leadership within Further Education, including strategy and policy development.
7. Leadership & Management Experience - Proven experience in leading teams, managing performance, and implementing strategic initiatives, with the ability to influence at all levels and maintain professional boundaries.
8. Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication, people management, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong professional relationships and lead with confidence.
9. Organisation & Analytical Abilities - Highly organised with strong project management, decision-making, and analytical skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and confident handling sensitive data.
10. Professionalism & Flexibility - Demonstrates commitment to TBCG values, safeguarding, and equality; adaptable to changing business needs, able to travel across campuses, and dedicated to continuous professional development.
