Kick-start your career in engineering with a hands-on apprenticeship in the defence sector. We’re looking for a motivated Apprentice Engineer to join our team in Portland, where you’ll combine workplace experience with college-based study to gain a recognised qualification and build the foundation for a long-term career.
As an Apprentice Test/Production Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on real projects, supporting the manufacture of defence systems and components. What you’ll do:
Assist with the setup and operation of manufacturing equipment and processes.
Support the planning and documentation of production activities.
Follow standard operating procedures, engineering drawings, and build instructions.
Help monitor product quality, spot issues, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Keep accurate production records and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and quality teams on live projects.
Take part in team problem-solving sessions and contribute ideas.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
What you’ll need:
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above, including Maths, English, and Science.
A genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing.
Strong attention to detail, a commitment to learning, and good teamwork skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
Eligibility to meet UK security clearance requirements (e.g. UK national, 5 years residency).
Desirable: Level 2 engineering/technical qualification, experience with tools, CAD, DIY, or technical drawing.
