Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor - Data Centers / Mission Critical
A rapidly expanding organisation specialising in cutting-edge data centre and mission-critical facilities seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team in the South / South West UK. In this role, you will provide comprehensive cost management, procurement, and project financial oversight for the development and implementation of mission-critical infrastructure. The organisation values proactive problem-solving and a flexible approach, and you will collaborate closely with internal technical teams and external specialist partners to ensure optimal value in terms of time, cost, quality, resilience, and risk.
As a crucial member of the team, you will contribute directly to the ongoing advancement and innovation within the data centre and mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities :
* Evaluate costs and provide strategic advice on alternative technical and commercial proposals specific to data centre construction.
* Provide expert advice on contract arrangements and conditions tailored to the complexities of mission-critical builds.
* Advise architects and engineers on the cost implications of specialised data centre construction methods, critical environment materials and systems, and the impact of redundancy and resilience requirements on project budgets.
* Prepare detailed tendering documents, including Bills of Quantities, incorporating the unique elements of data centre projects.
* Proactively manage project costs during the construction phase of mission-critical facilities and expertly negotiate final accounts, considering the intricacies of these builds.
* Adhere to Practice procedures concerning quality assurance, with a strong emphasis on the specific quality standards of mission-critical environments.
Qualifications :
* BSc Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
* Extensive experience working on major projects, with a demonstrable track record of high-standard technical delivery specifically within the data centre or other mission-critical sectors .
* Proven experience in managing both internal and external project teams involved in complex technical builds.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* The ability to build strong working relationships at all levels, including specialist data centre consultants and contractors.
* A strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the critical nature of data centre infrastructure, able to convey ideas clearly to Clients, external stakeholders, and the design team.
* The ability to adapt strategies in response to the unique and often rapidly evolving priorities of mission-critical projects.
* Chartership (e.g., MRICS) is highly beneficial.
