We are seeking a Calibration & Production Engineer to work for a medical device manufacturer in Littlehampton.
Role Overview:
The Production and Calibration Engineer role combines responsibility for production process engineering with ownership of equipment maintenance, calibration, and site engineering support. The role is being created to ensure production equipment, processes, and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with ISO 13485 and internal quality systems. The position is hands-on and supports day-to-day manufacturing operations while also driving continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and process capability across injection moulding, RF welding, ultrasonic welding, assembly, and testing activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing direct engineering support to Cleanroom and Mouldshop production teams, including the setup, optimisation, and ongoing maintenance of RF welding machines, ultrasonic welders, semi-automated drilling systems, printing equipment, and associated assembly and test systems. This includes troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process-related faults to minimise downtime and maintain consistent output.
• Developing, maintaining, and executing preventive maintenance schedules across all production and facility equipment, ensuring machinery reliability and extending equipment life. Accurate maintenance records must be maintained, with all work documented in line with quality and regulatory requirements. The role also involves selecting, managing, and coordinating external contractors and service providers where specialist support is required, including ensuring annual plant maintenance contracts are completed on time.
• Calibration ownership forms a core part of the role, including the calibration and control of measurement devices, production equipment, and test instruments. This includes arranging off-site or supplier calibration where required, maintaining calibration logs and certificates, and ensuring all equipment remains within calibration status. Routine and new equipment PAT testing, as well as periodic routine particulate testing of each of the cleanrooms.
Skills and Experience:
The role requires proven experience in a manufacturing engineering environment, ideally within regulated or medical device manufacturing. Strong hands-on capability with production equipment, maintenance activities, and calibration processes is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to documentation and record keeping. The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across production, quality, facilities, and management teams is critical. A qualification at degree level or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Process, or Maintenance Engineering is preferred, although equivalent practical experience will be considered. Knowledge of, lean manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement techniques is advantageous.
