University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a key role within the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS) as Operations Manager within Pathology.
This role leads the operational delivery of WGLS, contributes to significant transformation programmes within the Central and South Genomic Medicine Service, and supports alignment, standardisation and future development of services across the Wessex region.
Working closely with Consultant Clinical Scientists and the wider Pathology leadership team, you will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, lead teams through change, support service improvements, and shape how genomics services are delivered in the future.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for Genomics operations, supporting delivery of high‑quality services while driving transformation across the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service.
* Lead and support implementation of regional changes, ensuring effective transition and service continuity.
* Manage workforce, financial and operational resources, including line management of staff and oversight of departmental performance.
* Ensure robust governance and quality systems are maintained, including UKAS accreditation and compliance with ISO 15189 standards.
* Lead teams through change, supporting service improvements and shaping the future delivery of genomics services.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
* MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant pathology discipline.
* HCPC registration.
* Significant experience in an acute diagnostic laboratory environment with in‑depth knowledge of pathology services.
* Proven leadership and people‑management experience, including performance management and team development.
* Strong understanding of quality management systems, governance and regulatory requirements within laboratory services.
Desirable Criteria
* Evidence of participation in Continuing Professional Development (including leadership/management).
* Formal management qualification.
* Membership of a professional body.
* Experience in business‑case development and procurement.
* Ability to handle potentially infectious pathological specimens.
* Broad pathology experience.
* Chartered Scientist.
