Clinical Lead

Cherry ward is a 18 bedded mixed sex inpatient for the assessment and treatment of clients who are deemed to have a Functional type mental problems. Specifically but not exclusive to depression, anxiety and psychotic disorders.

As a clinical Lead your role is to improve and maintain clinical and professional practice whilst supporting the ward manager. A big part of the clinical lead role is to support band 5 Registered Nurses and healthcare Assistants on the ward leading on and supporting with clinical and managerial supervision.

You will be required to carry out audits and undertake, monitor and improve the standards on the ward and take action and implement changes where necessary to improve patient care.

As a clinical lead your role also require you to cover the senior nurses role across the Highbury site on a rotational basis. This involves overseeing Highbury Site managing any issues that may arise out of hours including fire alarms, staffing issues, sudden death, damage to hospital property and any other unforeseen emergency that may occur.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, forward thinking motivated Clinical Lead with experience or invested interest in working with our patient group. You will have a sound knowledge and understanding of the mental health, person centred care, physical health and social needs relating to this patient group.

We are seeking to recruit someone who has the relevant knowledge and skills to provide clinical leadership to the ward's multidisciplinary team. You will be a visible point of contact to junior staff requiring clinical guidance, expertise and support in the delivery of high-quality, person centred and compassionate care.

It is essential that you are able to work flexible hours over 24-hour period 7 days a week on a 12 hrs shift pattern. This post also incorporates Senior Nurse duties at Highbury.

Applicants should have excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work alongside the ward manager and have the personal characteristics to assist in leading a strong, experienced and supportive team in a challenging and rewarding environment. Applicants must display a considerable degree of initiative, possess mature judgement and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with patients, carers, colleagues and visitors.

Applicants must have at least 12 months experience at Band 5 and have completed their preceptorship.

You will be required to apply a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism to this work.

Job responsibilities

If you are looking for an exciting and challenging opportunity to work alongside the Ward Manager and other clinical leads to develop our inpatient ward vision then we would like to hear from you.

You will need to demonstrate the necessary role modelling qualities in line with Trust Values to promote high standards of care and contribute to service development and transformation.

You will be expected to provide clinical and managerial supervision and appraisal systems for a group of staff as well as maintaining your own continuing professional development. You will be expected to deputise in absence of Ward Manager and support the Ward Manager in maintaining effective team working processes including e-rostering, sickness and attendance management, clinical audit and PAD.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Maintains current registration with the NMC.
* Further specialist knowledge/post registration experience in specific service area or other formal training.
* Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration.


Training

* Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.


Experience

* Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.
* Specialist and area specific experience.
* The ability to deal with and resolve conflict.


Knowledge

* Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and understanding of clinical risk assessments.
* Knowledge of the nursing 6 c's.
* Awareness of national and local issues impacting of nursing care.
* Knowledge of management theories.


Skills

* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to be flexible and handle conflict issues.
* Good skills in assessment intervention and evaluation of patients nursing care.
* Clinical supervision skills.


Physical requirements

* Able to undertake training in the management of violence reduction.
* Has the physical ability to perform the full range of nursing duties.
