An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 deputy sister/ charge nurse to join the Gastro team on ward 14a. The successful post holder will lead the team to deliver high quality compassionate care and support patients to meet their daily needs.

The ward is busy with a high patient turnover and the position requires a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who has knowledge or experience in leadership. You will need to possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A polite and courteous manner towards patients and relatives will be essential for this role, together with your ability to work under pressure as part of the team on a busy medical ward.The successful candidate must be caring, compassionate and possess a positive attitude to supporting colleagues in the delivery of high quality, safe, effective care for our patients.

We are at the forefront of the Trust's digital agenda utilising: NerveCentre (electronic patient monitoring and handover) and Live staffing linked to patient acuity / dependency called SafeCare live. In addition, all our areas use the latest wireless communication equipment (Vocera).


Main duties of the job

* To provide the highest standard of holistic care for patients through the utilisation of enhanced clinical skills and advice in the assessment and management of patients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to improve and maintain the quality and safety of patient care.
* To contribute to the delivery and development of the Ward the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice.
* To be accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care in relation to cardiologyand as set out in the NMC Code.
* To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in safest manner.
* To work as a member of a clinical team in the provision of care and knowledge.
* To provide clinical advice and support to clinical staff within GHNT on the management and care of patients.
* To communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, carers and the public.
* To act as a resource and role model for the profession at all times.
* To provide education and training to clinical staff and internal /external agencies.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the ward manager and deputising in their absence. In this you will be assisting to lead a team of dedicated and committed staff, securing and assuring the highest standards of safe and quality patient care.

You must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

Interested individuals must be able to demonstrate strong leadership, be proactive and have a keen willingness to learn as well as share knowledge. Recent experience of implementing change and participating in audit and/or research would be advantageous.

The successful candidate must have a vision for the development of the service and the skills, enthusiasm and drive to undertake this exciting role.


Qualifications

* Professional Nursing Registration
* Relevant post basic qualification or equivalent level of experience
* Teaching and assessing qualification
* Evidence of ongoing education eg study days etc
* Possess nursing degree/masters or working towards


Skills

* Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
* Ability to use initiative and problem solving skills
* Clinical skills relevant to speciality
* Significant experience of managing on a day to day basis
* Evidence of managing complaints and concerns at ward level
