A major construction contractor headquartered in West Yorkshire is seeking amercial Director to lead theirmercial operations across a diverse portfolio of projects.
This senior appointment offers the opportunity to influence business strategy, drivemercial performance, and play a key role in the growth and direction of thepany.
The Role
Asmercial Director, you will be responsible for shaping and overseeing allmercial functions within the business. Working as part of the senior leadership team, you will ensure the effective management of budgets, risk, forecasting, procurement, and contractualpliance across multiple operational divisions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategicmercial leadership across a large, multi‑disciplinary construction business
Lead, mentor, and develop themercial team includingmercial Managers and QS staff
Oversee financial performance, project forecasting, CVRs, risk management, andmercial reporting
Ensurepliance with contractual obligations (JCT/NEC) andpanyernance structures
Lead high‑level negotiations with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
Oversee procurement strategy and ensure robust cost control across all projects
Work closely with the Board, Operations, and Pre‑Construction on bids, tenders, and business planning
Drive continuous improvement acrossmercial processes, systems, and reporting
Influence business strategy, margin improvement, and long-termmercial stability
Represent the business at senior client meetings and industry forums
About You
Extensive seniormercial experience within the construction industry mercial Manager, Senior QS, or existingmercial Director level)
Strong understanding ofmercial management across a variety of construction projects
Proven track record of leading high-performingmercial teams
Deep contractual knowledge, particularly JCT and NEC
Highly analytical, financially astute, and confident in board-level decision-making
Strongmunicator able to build relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders
Forward-thinking leader able to drive change, performance, andmercial discipline
