Trust Fire Safety Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Adviser. The Fire Safety Adviser will be responsible to the Head of Security, Fire Safety and Compliance, with delegated responsibility to the Trust Fire Safety Manager for managing all aspects of Fire Safety. The post holder will be required to work across all University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites. The successful applicant will have previous fire service, NHS fire Safety experience and working with an outsourced or Private Finance Initiative (PFI) service provision. Extensive knowledge of and experience in the practical application of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and ability to undertake fire risk assessments using a modern approach.


Main duties of the job

You will be highly motivated and organised with a proven track record of performing fire risk assessments within an NHS healthcare environment, including the provision of training development and must possess a technical understanding of the aspects of firefighting equipment and the ability to develop and practice evacuation procedures. You will need to have effective interpersonal and communication skills, excellent report writing and presentation skills. The proficient use of Microsoft Office, e.g. Word, power point and Excel is essential. Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* Educated to Post Graduate Diploma Level, and/or equivalent relevant background experience in Fire Safety Management Good written/spoken English.
* Membership of an Association of Fire Officers.
* Accreditation as Fire Manager or similar fire industry accreditation where possible.


Experience

* Fire Management experience within a large service organisation or Fire Authority.
* Experience of working with both internal and external customers at all levels of an organisation.
* Experience of effectively applying specialist legislation, regulation, policies, practices and procedures which relate to fire safety.
* In depth working knowledge of using, installing and interrogated fire safety systems.
* Experience of delivering/facilitating training programmes.
* Able to work outside normal working hours.
* Trained and competent in fire safety design.


Skills and Abilities

* Presentation, influencing, negotiation and persuasion.
* Organisational and leadership.
* Analytical, creative and visionary.
* IT literate - familiar with computer software.
* Capable of remaining clam whilst under high pressure.


Communication

* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to deal with a changing workload.
* Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
* Ability to successfully influence and negotiate.
* Ability to recognise in yourself work related stress and pressures.


Specific Requirements

* Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies including the Constitution, Standing Orders and data protection policies.
* Outcome focussed.
* Self-confidence and personal drive Flexibility.
* Able to work under pressure and make decision without referral to others.
* Role may include some work in the evening and at weekends.
* Able to keep abreast of advancements in fire management.


Other requirements, including:

* Demonstrate a commitment to professional development of self and others.
* Knowledge of equalities issues and strong commitment to the promotion of equality in employment.
* An ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of current fire management and policy affecting health in the public sector.
