Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a newly commissioned pan‑London Men’s Mental Health Treatment Requirements (MHTR) service to reduce custodial sentences and improve the wellbeing of men in the criminal justice system with mental health needs. MHTRs offer courts an alternative to short custodial sentences by addressing underlying vulnerabilities through psychologically informed interventions and advice. The North London Forensic Collaborative, the largest forensic provider collaborative in England, partners with five NHS Trusts to deliver this service.
Main Duties
* Assess men prior to sentencing to consider suitability for an MHTR.
* Provide short‑term psychological interventions for those sentenced to an MHTR.
* Act as a liaison with stakeholders including probation colleagues and court staff.
* Supervise pre‑qualified staff, including trainees and assistant psychologists.
* Engage in service research, audits and development activities.
* Ensure consistent delivery of MHTR services across London.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* HCPC registered as a Practising Psychologist or a registered Psychological Therapist.
* Registered with a professional body.
Desirable Qualifications
* Training in trauma‑focused work, research methodology, staff training or other applied psychology fields.
* Experience with more than one psychological therapy modality.
Essential Experience
* Assessment including risk assessment.
* Working with a range of client groups across the lifespan, from complex to challenging cases.
* Experience delivering brief, primary‑care or CBT‑based interventions.
* Multidisciplinary team working.
* Teaching and training.
Desirable Experience
* Own lived experience relevant to the population served.
* Knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
* Forensic experience.
* Experience with co‑production and multicultural contexts.
* Supervision experience.
Essential Knowledge
* Research experience.
* Knowledge of forensic assessment and current NHS service provision.
Essential Skills
* Strong communication and training skills.
* Ability to work with challenging groups.
* Flexibility to meet demands of commissioners and other stakeholders.
