The post holder will be part of the city-wide Podiatry Service within Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC). The post involves working with a mentor and colleagues to assess, risk categorise and plan treatment for new referrals and existing patients, ensuring patient care pathways are followed and that care episodes reflect current best practice or national guidance.
Responsibilities
* Assess, risk categorize and plan treatment for new referrals and existing patients.
* Ensure that patient care pathways are followed and that episodes of care reflect current best practice or national guidance.
* Contribute to managing the independence and mobility of patients, while promoting foot health, foot care advice and self-management.
* Provide holistic care with advice and signposting as appropriate.
* Complete a set of competencies to progress and develop potential to extend scope of practice, supported by a 12-month preceptorship framework.
* Under supervision and independently from referral to discharge, provide treatment programmes for a wide range of foot and ankle pathologies.
* Work with local analgesia, minor invasive and sterile surgical procedures, wound care and ulcer debridement, enucleation and debridement of skin lesions, neurological and vascular assessment, musculoskeletal assessments, and use of materials to redistribute foot pressures.
Qualifications and Training
* New patient assessment and treatment planning experience.
* Proficiency in local analgesia, minor invasive procedures, wound care and debridement.
* Neurological and vascular assessment using diagnostic equipment.
* Musculoskeletal assessment and appropriate use of materials to redistribute foot pressures.
* Ability to work under supervision and independently from referral to discharge.
Working Arrangements
Role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team within BCHC; support from a mentor with opportunities for development via a 12-month preceptorship.
Communication and Relationships
* Establish effective working relations with patients and carers, mentor/clinical supervisor, service and line managers, clinical and administrative colleagues, and GP practice staff where appropriate.
