Occupational Therapist – Dorset Council UK
We are looking for a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our newly established Birth to Settled Adulthood Service, working with young people and their families with disabilities from birth to adulthood. The service comprises several teams including social care, early help, short breaks, young carers, and paediatric occupational therapy.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a service in development, aiming to better support our disabled young people prepare for adulthood and achieve successful outcomes. You will be part of a committed and passionate team ensuring that disabled children and young people in Dorset access support at the right time and through the right services.
What the role will involve
* Manage a varied caseload including assessments, equipment provision and adaptations (both minor and major) tailored to each child's unique needs.
* Work closely with social care colleagues and adult services to help ensure a seamless transition for young people moving into adulthood.
* Collaborate with health professionals, education teams, housing services, Dorset Accessible Homes Service, Integrated Equipment Service, and external specialists such as builders and architects.
* Provide regular supervision, attend team and service meetings, and support continuous professional development.

* Dorchester Local Office – West & North Dorset areas
* Westport House, Wareham – East Dorset areas
About You
* Highly experienced, qualified Paediatric Occupational Therapist with significant experience in movement and handling, adaptation work, and specialist paediatric equipment.
* Hold an appropriate qualification (BSc or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the HCPC.
* Knowledge of disability issues, child development, family dynamics, statutory safeguarding procedures, childcare legislation and current working practices.
* Experience working with children and/or adults who are disabled and with their families.
* Excellent communication skills in spoken English.
* Will receive regular supervision and training to meet professional development requirements.
