Head of Midwifery

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to take on the pivotal role of Head of Midwifery for the Women's Health Clinical Service Unit (CSU), which includes both maternity and gynaecology services.

In this role, you will set and lead the strategic direction of the CSU, working closely with the Clinical Lead for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Divisional Clinical Director, and the Divisional General Manager to shape service provision and drive forward innovation and improvement.

You will act as a trusted adviser on complex midwifery and nursing issues to the Director of Nursing, the Trust Executive Team, and the Board of Directors, ensuring your expertise influences decisions at the highest level.

With responsibility for the delivery of safe, high-quality care across all maternity and gynaecology services, you will lead on embedding a strong governance and safety culture. As a key member of the divisional management team, you will also provide assurance around patient experience and outcomes, while driving the continued development and implementation of our Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the development of the midwifery profession through proactive involvement in local, regional and national forums.

To lead on the preparation for assessments and inspections from external bodies such as Care Quality Commission and to prepare action plans in response to areas of improvement and identify mechanisms to provide assurance on the quality of care being provided.

To support the Divisional General Manager in the marketing, planning and commissioning of services, adjusting plans or strategies.

Review on a regular basis the Women's Health performance and co-ordinate the collection, analysis and presentation of appropriate performance information to clinical teams both on a service and divisional level.

Ensure professional standards are maintained and continuous service improvement through leadership, effective succession planning, effective teamwork and empowerment of clinicians.

Ensure that the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council relating to nursing and midwifery are monitored and met in the Division.

Utilise outputs from audit, feedback, risk management, incident reporting, complaints etc. to determine changes to both education/training and clinical practice across the service.

Person Specification


Knowledge and experience

* Significant evidence of management development study pertaining to the role
* Evidence of continued personal and professional development
* Strong leadership qualities with the ability to provide clear direction
* Experience of project management
* Significant experience of managing and motivating staff within a team
* Knowledge of key policies and strategies
* Experience of project management
* Able to think and work strategically to achieve agreed objectives


Qualifications

* NMC Registered Midwife
* BSc/BA Degree (or an equivalent level of academic award relevant to the specialty)
* Masters degree or equivalent level of experience
