Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice dental nurse to join our friendly dental practice. We would love you to join us as an apprentice dental nurse and start your exciting career in dental nursing. The successful candidate will be assisting other dental health professionals, providing chairside support and a high level of patient care.
Responsibilities
* Prepare records, images, equipment and materials for clinical assessment.
* Process and manage dental radiographs and images.
* Provide chairside support to the operator during treatment.
* Prepare and maintain the clinical environment including the instruments and equipment.
* Identify, assess, and manage medical emergencies.
* Implement, perform, and manage effective decontamination and infection control procedures according to current guidelines.
* Maintain contemporaneous, complete and accurate patient records in accordance with legal requirements and best practice.
* Contribute to relevant special investigations and diagnostic procedures.
* Undertake orthodontic assessment and obtain valid consent from patients, explaining all relevant factors and taking into account legal requirements where appropriate within scope of practice.
* Provide patients/carers with comprehensive, personalised preventive advice and interventions to promote self-care and improve oral health.
* Adopt an evidence-based approach to clinical practice and communicate effectively with patients, the public, and colleagues.
* Work in partnership with colleagues to develop and maintain an effective and supportive environment which promotes patient safety and wellbeing.
* Identify and explain risks within and around the clinical environment and manage these safely and effectively.
* Support patients to negotiate barriers to accessing oral healthcare and respect diverse patient needs and protected characteristics.

Training and Apprenticeship Details
* Training course: Dental nurse (GDC 2023) level 3.
* Hours: Monday–Friday, 9.00am–5.00pm; 30 hours per week. Shifts may include evenings and weekends; exact shifts to be confirmed. Start date Friday 24 October 2025. Duration: 1 year. Positions available: 1.
* You will learn on the job with an accompanying assessment and skills development programme, with the aim to register as a dental nurse with the General Dental Council (GDC).
* Age requirement: You must be aged 19 or above for this position due to insurance restrictions.
* What you will study: Cross-infection, Anatomy, Radiography, Oral hygiene, Orthodontics, Restoration, Legislation, First aid, Health and safety.
* End goal: Qualification enabling professional registration and potential long-term employment with the employer.
What You'll Do at Work
* Prepare and maintain the clinical environment, equipment and materials for dental procedures.
* Keep accurate and current patient records on the system.
* Assist with dental procedures and learn to work to current best practices for dental nurses.
* Develop skills across clinical responsibilities to operate competently in all aspects of dental nursing.
* Learn cross-infection control, radiography, anatomy, orthodontics, restorations, legislation, first aid, and health and safety.
