The post holder, as part of the Orthopaedic multi‑disciplinary team, will provide cast and brace services for all departments and wards within the hospital, including complex, specialist and routine cases. The post holder will manage this service under supervision and take responsibility to ensure all patients receive a high‑quality service at all times. This is a Trust‑wide contract with the expectation that the post holder will cross‑cover with other sites within ULTH.
Responsibilities
* Application and removal of casts, specialist bracing and splints for adults and children, including complex, routine, and non‑routine cases as prescribed by clinicians.
* Application of specialist casts in theatre as necessary.
* Provide patient‑specific casts alongside the diabetic service.
* Modification of casts/splints as required.
* Work alongside clinical activity while incorporating patients from the wards and theatre.
* Remove clips, sutures and K‑wires as instructed by the clinician according to the patient's care plan.
* Assist with the removal of external fixators.
* Apply bandages, tubi‑grips and slings as instructed by clinicians.
* Remove and apply simple wound dressings as appropriate to assist with care delivery, reporting wound or tissue viability issues to the appropriate team members.
* Maintain excellent communication links with the multidisciplinary team to promote a high standard of patient care.
* Communicate with each patient individually, explaining specific information, advice and care.
* Input data collected on patient activity so that accurate statistics may be compiled.
* Transmit, store and retrieve patient information from the hospital computer system.
* Update patient records as required following treatment.
* Assist in the manipulation of fractures to reduce the need for theatre admissions.
This position is based at Lincoln Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital, Grantham and District Hospital and works cross‑cover across the Trust. The role is crucial in delivering quality orthopaedic care across the county.
