Here at Bournemouth & Poole College, we have a position available for an Academic Support Assistant on a term time only, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £9,584.50 - £18,132.84 per annum (£23,556 per annum FTE). As of August 2025, this role will benefit from a 3% pay award.

The Academic Support Assistant Role
As our Academic Support Assistant, you will ensure that students with additional needs are provided with a positive and supported learning experience. Academic Support Assistants enable students with additional needs to successfully complete their programmes of study; helping students by working in conjunction with teaching staff to provide support on an individual or small group basis.
Responsibilities as Our Academic Support Assistant will include:
* Working under the direction of teaching staff (class tutors and specialist practitioners) to provide high-quality specialist support. Specialisms will include English and maths support, support for learners with Autism and/or specific learning disabilities.
* Encouraging and supporting students to develop their skills in working independently.
* Providing necessary support during teaching sessions, including helping students interpret notes, checking understanding of vocabulary, and recapping learning.
* Providing tailored support outside of the classroom as required, such as in the Study Centre.
* Developing strategies to support student organisational skills, such as prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
* Supporting and preparing students for exams of all types; acting as a reader, scribe, or invigilator. Following training, ASAs may set up exams independently and return paperwork to the examination team.
* Undertaking mandatory or relevant training sessions before the start of the term.
* Completing administrative duties such as session reviews, contributing to annual reviews, and recording progress using online systems like Pro Monitor.
* Providing personal care as required, in line with risk assessments and student support plans, ensuring dignity and sensitivity.
* Working with students with medical needs as outlined in their IHCPs.
Ideally, You Will Have:
* GCSE 4-9 (or equivalent Level 2) in English and Maths.
* Experience using online record-keeping systems.
* Proficiency with email and online calendar systems.
* Experience engaging with individuals across various ages and academic levels.
* An understanding of additional learning needs and disabilities.
* Broad knowledge of academic and vocational curricula and delivery models.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Zoom.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies.
