Job summary
Different from a driving test,the assessment is designed to review a persons driving and give them an honestopinion of their skills and ability.
They may want to investigatehow they might be able to drive using vehicle modifications because of aphysical disability or because theyve become less able following a stroke, forexample.
They might want to check that theyrestill able to drive safely following a recent diagnosis of a medical condition,such as dementia.
They may want reassurance asthey get older, and their reactions have slowed a little. To bepart of a team toconduct these assessments to deem if someone is at the legal standards fordriving. These people may have been referred by a Health professional, the Policeor by themselves.
The role may also need you tosupport another service to help families get out and about, in a safe manner.Being able to get out and about is an essential part of family life.
Working with equipmentspecialists, you will support car seat and harness assessments for childrenwith a range of disabilities, or who have challenging behaviours. You will thenprovide the family with an assessment report so they have the information tomake an informed choice.
During the assessment you will find out more about the child and the familysneeds and well recommend which car seat most suits you, including if itscompatible with your vehicle.
Outside of the clinicsyoull triage referrals and help admin staff priorities assessments.
Main duties of the job
To workas part of the DANW Team, participating in client assessment and offeringinformed advice to clients and carers and providing driver retraining andfamiliarisation

Support thesafe and effective delivery of assessment to meet KPI and targets
Deliveringpresentations to other medical professionals and charities to promote theservice.
Equipment checking andensuring the environment to deliver assessment form
Some servicedevelopment and delivery will be required
Toparticipate in the day-to-day organisation and development of DANW

To have responsibilityfor the organisation and co-ordination of DANW ensuring efficient and safemanagement.
To respond to enquiriesfrom relatives and carers and other organisations
PALS,deal with concerns and actively problem solve to improve the client experience
To act as lead ininvestigating complaints and formulation of responses.
To communicate withstakeholders provision of the service and to support the Clinical Manager inreporting as required
To communicate withclients, relatives/carers, explaining assessment outcomes, frequently breakingbad news
To communicatesensitive and often complex information to referring agents.
To communicate withstaff of all levels to motivate and advise on achieving high standards ofclient care
To maintain effectivelinks with other mobility cents, Driving Mobility and other stakeholders
To effectively dealwith clients/ carers who are upset or aggressive and may challenge assessment outcomes.
Tocommunicate with people whose first language may not be English and to refer tointerpreter service as per assessment of needs.
To develop effectivecommunication with clients who are confused or have a dementia diagnosis.
To give presentationsto groups of staff and service users for training and information needs
Responsiblefor the quality of written information within the assessment report

Experience
Essential
1. Post registration experience in relevant fields / range of experience.
2. Significant demonstrable experience of working as an OT
3. Experience of working in a leadership role.
4. Experience of working in the field of driving assessment and/ or experience in a broad range of physical and mental health settings.
5. Experience of managing staff and utilising HR policies.
6. Experience of working with other stakeholders

7. Experience of delivery of service development.
8. Experience in education and supporting of development of staff
Qualifications

9. Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
10. HCPC Registration
11. Registered with relevant Qi professional body -HCPC/ DVSA
12. Evidence of post basic Training
13. Specialist study in clinical area.
