The AI Security Institute is the largest team in a government dedicated to understanding AI capabilities and risks worldwide.
Our mission is to equip governments with empirical understanding of the safety of advanced AI systems. We conduct research on AI capabilities and impacts, and develop risk mitigation strategies. Our focus includes risks with security implications, such as AI's potential to aid in chemical and biological weapons development, cyber-attacks, crimes like fraud, and loss of control.
We aim to prevent AI harms from impeding its potential by combining startup agility with government expertise and mission focus.
Strategic Awareness
We focus on keeping AISI and the government informed of AI developments, enabling preparedness for AGI and advanced AI systems through scenario-based foresight and tracking key developments. We combine technical research with communication activities to engage government decision-makers on AI advancements.
Role Summary
As Technical Engagement Lead, you will engage key government decision-makers to foster preparedness for AGI and advanced AI. Responsibilities include planning and delivering communication on technological developments and risks, creating engagement content such as presentations or demonstrations, and potentially building a team for technical engagement. Collaboration with technical researchers and civil servants will be essential.
This role involves leading engagements with decision-makers, planning communication strategies, and presenting technical material in accessible formats, leveraging AISI’s technical expertise and research.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have technical insight into AI impacts, exceptional communication skills, and experience creating technical content for non-specialists. Knowledge in AI governance, demonstrations, or evaluations is desirable. Relevant experience includes policy briefings, AI capability demonstrations, or engaging non-expert audiences.
Required Experience
* Research track record in AI
* Strong knowledge of frontier AI, capability trajectories, supply chains, and impacts
* Experience communicating AI impacts to non-specialists
* Interpersonal skills
Desired Experience
* Creating and delivering AI demonstrations
* Research in AI Safety
* Model evaluation experience
* Degree in AI/ML or equivalent professional experience
Salary & Benefits
Salaries range from Level 3 (£65k-£75k) to Level 7 (£145k), including base salary, technical allowance, and benefits. The role is outside the DDaT pay framework due to technical scope. Pension options are available.
Selection Process
Applicants require Security Clearance (SC), with potential for Developed Vetting (DV). The process adheres to Civil Service rules, emphasizing merit and diversity.
