Job Overview

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is a Top Employer Award Winner and works in partnership to provide responsive and dependable primary care, mental health, intellectual disability and substance misuse services to the diverse and culturally rich communities we serve. In our quest to deliver patient‑focused quality care we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our forward‑thinking, friendly and expanding Health & Justice team at HMP Feltham B. By joining our Prisons Health Care Team, you will look after the mental health needs of patients residing in secure environments, and make a real impact on promoting health and well‑being. Our healthcare services operate a 7‑day week model, ensuring patients’ healthcare is always managed and maintained to the highest standards. Our motto is “Caring NOT Judging”; by working in partnership with the criminal justice system and other agencies, we provide responsive, dependable and high‑quality primary care and mental health services to those who may have offended and those at risk of offending in the communities we serve, improving their health status and encouraging social inclusion.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative new model of care (NMOC), using all of your clinical and interpersonal abilities, developing new skills, and working with men who need and deserve high‑quality care. Feltham B is now a Category C male adult prison and is aligning its services to the New Model of Care (NMOC). The NMOC is designed to promote patient safety and well‑being from the point of reception into custody through to release, ensuring continuity of care, appropriate risk management, and seamless handover into the community or onward transfer to another establishment.

* Early Days in Custody (EDIC) – focusing on immediate health, mental health, and substance misuse needs at reception and during the early period in custody.
* Planned Care (PlC) – delivering ongoing, structured care for patients with identified health, mental health, and substance misuse needs.
* Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) – providing timely assessment and response to acute and urgent presentations.
* Release and Transfer (RT) – ensuring safe, coordinated transition of care on release or transfer, with robust communication to community and receiving services.

The model supports a whole‑pathway, patient‑centred approach, underpinned by multidisciplinary working, clear governance, and shared accountability.

Working for our organisation

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust offers its staff ongoing career progression through monthly supervision, annual personal development plans/appraisals, and access to exciting internal and external training opportunities. Career pathways include, but are not limited to, a Preceptorship Programme, support and guidance with revalidation, and Hidden Gem and annual award ceremonies. Staff benefits include health and wellbeing services, season ticket loans, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and a relocation package (subject to meeting criteria). All prison sites offer free use of onsite leisure facilities and free parking for staff.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Please see attached job description for full list of duties and responsibilities. The post holder will ideally have previous experience in relevant forensic mental health services. Experience working with service‑users with additional neuro‑developmental needs such as Learning Disabilities (LD), ADHD, social communication and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) would be beneficial to this role due to the diverse needs of the population.
