2 x GOVERNOR ROLES

Taunton School is governed by a Board of Governors whose primary responsibility is to ensure that the school provides the best education for its pupils. The Board has a duty to ensure its charitable objectives are adhered to. It comprises a group of people who voluntarily contribute a varied and differing range of experiences and skills applicable to the functions of the school.

Governors will support and provide counsel to the wider Board of Governors while constructively challenging the school’s executive team to achieve the highest standards in education and pupil development, as well as compliance and operations. Successful candidates will be collaborative, able to challenge constructively, and provide support in a thoughtful manner. All candidates must be committed and strongly aligned with Taunton school's ethos and values.

Governors focus on the three core functions of governance:

* Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction
* Holding executive leaders to account
* Overseeing and ensuring effective educational and financial performance

Role 1: Commercial / Finance Governor:

The successful candidate will bring senior-level commercial / finance experience from any sector. This individual will provide high-level advice and oversight on financial and commercial matters while contributing to broader strategic discussions. While a qualification as a chartered accountant is not required, a strong background in reviewing financial performance and identifying areas for improvement and efficiencies is essential. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, roles and sectors but will be able to challenge, support, and contribute effectively to conversations and decision-making around commercial / financial matters.

Role 2: AI / Digital Governor:

The successful candidate will contribute to Taunton School’s forward-thinking strategy in maximising the transformative potential of digital technology and AI. They will bring senior-level expertise in AI and digital strategy, ideally from a dynamic business or technology-driven environment. The successful candidate will have entrepreneurial agility, an ability to apply innovative digital solutions, and a keen interest in using their expertise for educational enhancement.

Governor Commitments: 3 Board + 3 Committee meetings + 1 strategy day per year + 1 School visit per term + ad-hoc engagement.
