This is an exciting opportunity to join the Phoenix Unit Team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Phoenix Unit – Sunderland site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced band 5 nurse to join our team and support the delivery of high quality safe oncology care. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with degree‑level education (Adult) or working towards one, with relevant current clinical experience. This predominantly nurse‑led unit requires experienced nurses eager to learn oncology and haematological treatment pathways. You will have extensive post‑registration experience, and mentorship skills and safe administration of chemotherapy (N59) would be desirable.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with other departments to ensure the timely admission, treatment and discharge of patients requiring a range of treatments.
* Ensure the best possible standards of patient care and maintain patient safety to assist in providing a positive patient experience.
* Give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carers, and provide accurate timely contemporary records of care and treatment in line with STSFT record‑keeping policy and NMC standards.
* Work within Trust nursing policies, procedures, and professional boundaries, undertaking all appropriate aspects of nursing care required, including specific relevant clinical skills gained following appropriate training instruction.
* Carry out venepuncture, venesection and cannulate patients daily; use aseptic, non‑touch technique for accessing Hickman Lines, PICCs and Ports.
* Be confident at communicating with patients facing life‑limiting illness, and with all members of the multidisciplinary team at all levels.
* Demonstrate the Trust Values within everyday work and complete a university‑accredited course within Systemic Anti‑Cancer Treatment (SACT) within the first 12 months of the role.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse with degree‑level education or relevant clinical experience.
* Extensive post‑registration experience in oncology settings.
* Mentorship and safe chemotherapy administration skills (N59) are desirable.
* Strong communication skills, confidence in patient interaction and multidisciplinary teamwork.
