Overview
Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) to join our Hydropower team. You will work on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions, supporting projects such as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales.
Responsibilities
* Be responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of outline and detailed designs to support successful project delivery.
* Work closely with the Client and a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, and develop mechanical design at feasibility, outline and detailed stages.
* Develop cost-effective and innovative design solutions in line with the Client’s requirements.
* Liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Support projects across Stantec’s Water and Thermal sectors as needed.
About You
* Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred or you are working towards it.
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience in design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
* Experience with rotating machinery.
* Knowledge and skills in the planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy sector projects.
* Ideally (but not essential) you will be competent in 3D modelling software such as Revit or AutoCAD, have experience in a BIM environment, and have hydropower experience; experience with pumps and large-bore valve specification and selection; experience with balance of plant and other systems typically found in hydropower (e.g., HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services).
