DDAT Lead Technical Architect - MoD - G7
Defence Digital leads on data science, automation, and cyber security at scale for the UK Armed Forces, managing joint capabilities across the Army, RAF, and Royal Navy. This role supports the Mission Information Exploitation (MIX) team, specifically the Imagery and Geospatial Intelligence Team, with broad architectural thinking.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team to deliver architecture outputs using optimal technical reference architectures and patterns, aligning user needs, system requirements, security, and organisational objectives to support Defence’s Digital Backbone and CTA.
* Coordinate end-to-end design and delivery of architecture programmes and services, map user and business requirements, and lead implementation into technology-agnostic service management solutions; manage delivery timescales, dependencies and risks with the Service Executive.
* Present architectural designs and recommendations to senior management, TDA, Architecture Reference Authority, and other stakeholders, upholding architecture principles and standards.
* Contribute to architectural practice development, ensure coherence with strategic directions, lead design assurance across MIX, and ensure compliance with technical policy and patterns.
* Provide SME guidance to the TDA, collaborate with Solution Architects to promote Defence Enterprise Architectures, and support engineering teams.
* Collate and coordinate delivery feedback from MIX into Architecture Leadership to enhance reference architectures and artefacts for current and future programmes.
Qualifications / Experience
* Deep understanding of technical and solution architectures, design principles, and methodologies.
* Extensive experience leading design and delivery of complex systems and services.
* Strong knowledge of government IT strategies and standards.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
* Proven ability to manage and mentor technical teams.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Experience with architecture frameworks and tools (e.g., TOGAF, DoDAF).
* Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.

Additional Information
This post may be eligible for a Digital Skills Allowance of up to £15,300 per annum. Eligibility assessed at interview. Some roles may be office/hybrid with a minimum 60% office presence; travel to other MOD locations may be required.
