Apprentice - Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician
The post holder will undertake a two-year apprenticeship programme, combining practical training with study to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification, including Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (if required).
Under the supervision of registered Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists, the apprentice will gain experience across all areas of hospital pharmacy, including medicines receipt, storage, distribution, and dispensing.
Duties include maintaining stock control, assisting with ordering, environmental monitoring, and supporting safe disposal of medicines.
The apprentice will learn to dispense prescriptions accurately, use pharmacy IT systems, and support medicines management activities on wards.
All work will follow Standard Operating Procedures, Good Distribution Practice, and Health and Safety regulations. Successful completion enables registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Main duties of the job
* This is a rotational post providing training, experience, and competency assessment across a wide range of hospital pharmacy services under the supervision of registered Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists.
* The post holder will develop skills in the safe, accurate, and efficient supply of medicines, stock management, dispensing, and the use of pharmacy information systems.
* They will be expected to demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviours in accordance with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Standards for Pharmacy Professionals.
* Practical, on-the-job training combined with completion of an in-house competency programme and formal qualifications will lead to eligibility for registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC.
* The role supports learning through structured supervision, reflection, and continuous professional development.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* 4 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grade A* - C to include Mathematics, English Language and two relevant Science subjects
* NVQ2 Pharmacy Services/BTEC2 Pharmacy Certificate or equivalent Level 2 Pharmacy qualification
* Over the Counter (OTC) sales qualification

Special Requirements
* Must live and work in England and have been a resident in the EU for a minimum of 3 years.
* Must be aged 16 years old or above.
* Cannot be enrolled onto another government funded programme.
* Cannot hold a Level 4 qualification or above, unless the qualification is "materially different" from the Apprenticeship in Pharmacy framework.
* Ability to work hours as rota stipulates including bank holiday, late nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
* Ability to travel between Frimley Park, Wexham Park and Heatherwood sites.
