Discrete Event Simulation Lead Engineer - £35-£40 /hr (Inside IR35)
Location: Warwickshire (hybrid potential) – 6 months (potential for renewal).
The Opportunity
The role is the principal virtual discrete event simulation engineer for Manufacturing Engineering and will be responsible for leading vehicle or system programmes Discrete Event Simulation function, modelling the process flow from concept thru to the delivery phase to JOB1 + 90 days.
Key Performance Indicators
* DES model achieves JPH target as per system scope requirements
* Deliver optimum DES system cycle time, decoupling buffer and technical/operational availability to achieve system OPR requirements
* Deliver DES model and documentation to programme timing milestones
* OPR maps / bottleneck analysis
* Absence & PULSE
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
* Responsible for the development and delivery of the Discrete Event Simulation model and documentation, modelling the process flow from concept thru to the delivery phase to JOB1 + 90 days.
* Develop the model to include:
o Discrete Event Simulation
* Lead the DES model generation from concept modelling to fully detailed mimic of the programme/system that meets the design scope, operating principals, performance metrics, safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and environment objectives.
* Lead the system optimisation, cost avoidance, best practices capturing and sharing with relevant stakeholders.
* Able to work effectively with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints.
* Guide the process using product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints to ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions.
* Coordinate and lead projects and team feedback of results as required through design/project reviews/DES dashboards.
* Lead optimisation of the DES model against different model derivative mixes and operational parameters.
* Lead bottleneck analysis of the system and develop strategies to remove.
* Lead volume throughput increase studies and system what-if's.
* Guide the process to adhere to the vehicle derivative sequencing and build-to-sequence rules.
* Support the continual development of tools and techniques which enhance capability, improve quality and robustness of DES models.
* Mentor and train junior team members and graduates.
* Undertake any other work as directed by line manager in connection with job as may be requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Essential:
o Working knowledge and experience of Discrete Event Simulation toolset.
o Previous experience in using Lanner Witness or Siemens Technomatix Plant Simulation toolset.
o Previous experience and background in production process flow simulation, problem solving on complex technical systems.
o Previous experience of bottleneck analysis using Discrete Event Simulation.
o Previous experience of delivering Discrete Event Simulation to programme KPIs and targets.
o Experience in production sites.
o Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred.
o A good communicator who can communicate complex ideas.
o An effective team player, actively leads, develops and supports team members.
o High levels of personal resilience, integrity and honesty, and humility for the team.
o Individual who enables speed in decision making through establishing alignment, clarity, appropriate resources and sense of urgency while bringing others along.
* Desirable:
o Experience in automotive production.
o Experience working practices of programme integration and new programmes in automotive engineering.
