An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a band 7 Clinical Psychologist for a three-month fixed-term post within Forest House Adolescent Unit, part of our Children and Young People's Mental Health Services (CYPMS, formerly CAMHS) multidisciplinary team.
The successful post holder will work within our Enhanced Specialist Pathway, which includes Forest House General Adolescent Unit (FHAU), Home Treatment Team, DBT, and the Eating Disorders Service. The role involves delivering high-quality services that promote and improve the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families within our pathway.
Requirements include HCPC registration, providing highly specialist child and adolescent services, and contributing to both core and specialist work. HPFT has been at the forefront of national developments in CYPMHS and service innovations. The team is dynamic, caring, supportive, and committed to collaborative working with young people and stakeholders, with opportunities for leadership and specialization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide systematic, highly specialist clinical psychology services to young people within FHAU and across the pathway, working collegially within a multidisciplinary Therapies Team and wider MDT.
2. Manage a team of therapists, ensuring appropriate skill mix and coverage, providing support and supervision as per Trust policy.
3. Deliver highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations, treatments, and advise on young people's psychological care to colleagues, professionals from other agencies, and carers.
4. Manage cases for a subset of young people, ensuring safe, joined-up care across hospital, community, and other services, guiding team members accordingly.
5. Work autonomously as part of the FHAU multidisciplinary team and the pathway, maintaining high standards of service.
6. Participate in pre-admission assessments, treatment planning, and facilitating safe transitions back into the community, aiming to prevent unnecessary admissions.
7. Provide clinical/professional supervision to less experienced psychologists and trainees.
8. Offer expert advice to other professionals and carers.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant training and professional registration as per person spec.
* Post-doctoral training in specialized areas of psychological practice, including CBT.
* Post-registration experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with complex needs.
Desirable Criteria
* Specialist training in relevant areas, knowledge of CAPA and CYP-IAPT.
* Experience in neuropsychological assessment, supervision, and working with diverse client groups with varying severity of mental health issues.
* Experience of teaching, training, supervision, and service quality monitoring.
* Research publication experience and excellent interpersonal skills.
* Ability to communicate complex information effectively and work therapeutically with young people and families.
* Leadership qualities, IT skills, and participation in CPD related to management and leadership.
