Responsible for the effective leadership, oversight, and management of the assigned regional Business Development team. Lead, oversee and support sales planning, client prospecting and development, product/service promotion, and the facilitation and preparation of requests for proposals/quotes to ensure revenue targets and expectations are met or exceeded.
Corporate and Budget Planning
* Participate in the sales and marketing strategic planning process as part of the Business Development leadership team.
* Identify future opportunities and advocate on behalf of Business Development and its stakeholders.
* Guide department budgeting, process review, and implementation to transform strategic plans into measurable short‑ and long‑term goals and targets.
Leadership
* Serve as a role model, motivator, and mentor, providing expertise and guidance to the Business Development team.
* Provide ongoing guidance into the promotion and delivery of quality sales and marketing materials and services that align with corporate objectives.
* Train, mentor, engage, and performance‑manage the Sales team.
* Support staffing issues and resolve concerns by collaborating with internal stakeholders.
Business Development and Sales
* Foster and grow partner relationships using industry best practices and clinical research developments to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
* Lead business development activities, leveraging internal technical experts to present, negotiate, close and support service engagements while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of sales tools and processes.
Service and Process Excellence
* Collaborate with leadership and other functional areas (e.g., Contracts) to achieve excellence in business development delivery, designing recommendations that minimize effort while meeting regulatory and industry standards.
Financial Resource Management
* Manage significant financial responsibility, including budget setting, autonomous expenditure, and revenue generation decisions within company policy, affecting profitability.
Degree of Independence
* Work with very little supervision, setting priorities, pace, and determining tasks and actions within overall responsibilities.
Contacts
* Maintain large and varied contacts, frequently technical, complex, or difficult, requiring analysis, persuasion, and negotiation.
Communication Complexity
* Frequent communication addressing complex, sensitive, or escalated issues with technically complex explanations that impact the organization's reputation.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate university degree (Bachelor or Honors Bachelor) and 4‑6 years related experience with substantial ongoing job‑related training.
* Or College Diploma/Degree and 7‑9 years related experience with continuous training and knowledge/skill upgrading.
* Previous leadership experience overseeing business development activities in a CRO organization preferred.
* Significant expansion of new business, account management, and client‑facing experience required.
* Health Sciences or Business Specialty preferred.
