About the Role

Are you passionate about driving environmental excellence in the construction industry? Balfour Beatty is looking for an Environmental Permitting & Consenting Specialist to provide technical leadership on environmental compliance, planning, licensing, and permitting across our UK operations. Reporting to the Head of Environmental Sustainability, this is a fantastic opportunity to shape how we deliver projects responsibly while ensuring we meet and exceed environmental standards.


What you'll be doing

* Lead on environmental compliance, building a culture of continual improvement across projects.
* Provide expert advice on planning, permitting, and UK environmental legislation.
* Support the development and roll-out of environmental management systems (ISO14001).
* Identify and assess environmental risks, ensuring robust mitigation strategies.
* Collaborate with operational teams, clients, regulators, and industry bodies.
* Drive performance reporting and support bids with environmental input.
* Represent Balfour Beatty in industry forums, influencing positive change.
* Lead investigations into environmental incidents, embedding lessons learned.


Who we're looking for

* A degree in Environmental Management (or related subject).
* IEMA Practitioner membership.
* 10+ years’ experience in environmental management, ideally within construction.
* Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, planning and permitting frameworks.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
* Proven experience developing and implementing environmental management systems.
* A collaborative approach with the confidence to engage internal and external stakeholders.
