Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Swimming Instructor to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities

Facility Operation and Maintenance:

1. Operating and maintaining the swimming pool in accordance with NAVMED P-5010-4, NAVSUPPFAC instructions, CNICINST, and other applicable Navy instructions and manuals.
2. Ensuring pool cleanliness, proper filtration, and water quality through regular monitoring and maintenance.
3. Inspecting pool equipment and addressing any maintenance concerns or coordinating repairs in a timely manner.
4. Enforcing all Navy and local safety guidelines, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe swimming environment for all patrons.

Swimming Instruction and Safety:

5. Planning and conducting swimming lessons for individuals or groups of varying ages and skill levels, focusing on basic swimming techniques, water safety, and skill development.
6. Monitoring and supervising swimmers to prevent accidents and provide lifesaving interventions when necessary.
7. Educating pool users on proper pool safety protocols, including rules for behavior, emergency response actions, and safety equipment use.
8. Administering first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/automated external defibrillation (AED) as necessary during emergencies.

Customer Service and Supervision:

9. Providing exceptional customer service to patrons, addressing questions, concerns, and feedback with courtesy and professionalism.
10. Ensuring an enjoyable and safe atmosphere for both recreational swimming and organized lessons.
11. Assisting in coordinating events at the pool, such as swimming competitions or training exercises, to meet customer needs.

Minimum Requirements

12. Certification as a Swimming Instructor through a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross or YMCA or equivalent.
13. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, with a commitment to maintain certifications as required.
14. At least 1 year of experience in swimming instruction or lifeguard services.
15. Thorough understanding of swimming pool operations, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures.
16. Strong communication skills and the ability to teach individuals of varying skill levels in a patient, professional manner.
17. Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

18. Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
19. Valid country driver’s license.
20. Country visa (as required in line with the Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
21. Familiarity with NAVMED P-5010-4 and other Navy pool management or safety instructions.
22. Experience teaching swimming or water safety courses in a government, military, or equivalent organizational setting.
23. Experience with large swimming pool maintenance and water quality testing.

Other Responsibilities

Safety
