An interim opportunity is available for a Network Designer within the Secondary Network Design Team, for a period of up to 12 months subject to review. The base location can be Bristol, Cardiff, Tipton or Derby and will be agreed with the successful candidate. Reporting to the Secondary Network Design Manager within the Distribution Network Operator, you will be working within a team to provide a comprehensive design and delivery plan to Network Services for ahead of need reinforcement. The Secondary Network Design Team are principally, responsible for the design, consenting and delivery plan of the RIIO ED2 load related reinforcement schemes that have been identified by DSO across all four license areas. The team will work closely with the Secondary System Planning Team, who are responsible for the analysis of NGED’s HV and LV Distribution System and will identify and prioritise the areas of secondary investment. The team will also work closely with Network Services Teams who will be responsible for the construction of the projects, to help maximise efficiency and accomplish common objectives. * You may initially be appointed at a lower salary (£37,770) until all relevant training and courses are completed. Main Responsibilities Liaise with the Secondary System Planning Team to determine reinforcement requirements. Identify technical solutions for schemes on the LV system. Electrical analysis of the system, including voltage, load flow and fault level analysis Design of LV network schemes, taking into consideration asset replacement and accepted new connection schemes Assess the Network based upon the information received from other departments. Ensure compliance to Company Policies and Engineering Recommendations. Build schemes in Crown for HV and LV schemes. Produce and update detailed scheme files. Update records and other documentation. Issue work to contractors and approve daily work sheets. Carry out quality and compliance checks on contractor’s works. Meeting tight deadlines for the delivery of schemes to network services. Technical support and coordination with Team Members and Network Services Planners across the business Assist with Network Services planning duties during peak times. Take into consideration the impact of projects on customers, the public and the environment You should have an analytical mind, with a methodical approach to problem solving and have the ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way. Experience of network modelling and analysis and the use of EMU/Smallworld GIS, Connect/LV, ConnectGrid, WinDebut or other equivalent design tools would be advantageous. The Ideal Candidate Ideally you will have practical/professional experience directly related to the role as well as an understanding of NGED systems/procedures and relevant legislation/regulations or the ability to quickly learn these. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to influence outcomes. Maybe you have some low-voltage experience as an electrician or similar. It would be beneficial to hold a Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 or equivalent Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering. Applicants will be considered however, who do not currently possess all the skills and/or qualifications required to carry out the role, but have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with training. A full UK/EU driving licence is required as you will need to be mobile throughout the area. A flexible attitude is essential as you may be asked to undertake other duties to assist the team in meeting its objectives.
