ICT & Procurement Support Officer
Role Purpose
The ICT Infrastructure & Communications Support Officer will support the Navy Digital in delivering and maintaining vital ICT services across the Naval estate. This role assists senior engineers and programme teams with the upkeep, improvement, and basic administration of telephony, Wi‑Fi, communications, and ICT infrastructure systems that enable essential Royal Navy operations.
The post holder will help ensure that ICT services remain safe, compliant, and reliable while gaining experience in MOD digital standards, ICT service delivery processes, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
ICT Service Support
- Support senior technical staff with the maintenance and administration of ICT systems, including telephony, Wi‑Fi, cabinets, and fixed infrastructure.
- Assist with routine updates, minor changes, and service adjustments as directed.
- Help maintain documentation, asset records, and configuration information.
- Monitor service requests and escalate issues appropriately.
Wi‑Fi (DBI) / Shoreside Internet Support
- Provide day‑to‑day support for the Wi-Fi service
- Assist users and site teams with basic troubleshooting, status checks, and service reporting.
- Contribute to work supporting the Navy's ambition to deliver a minimum digital baseline for personnel and families in service accommodation.
Project & Delivery Assistance
- Support the delivery of ICT upgrades and replacements by organising tasks, gathering information, and coordinating access with sites.
- Assist senior engineers with site surveys, inspections, and installation activities.
- Help track project progress, dependencies, and risks, raising any issues to the project lead.
Procurement & Administrative Support
- Assist with basic ICT procurement activities.
- Gather requirements, prepare draft orders, and coordinate with suppliers under guidance from senior staff.
- Maintain procurement records and support compliance with MOD processes.
Stakeholder & Team Support
- Communicate with site staff, service users, and internal teams to support ongoing service delivery.
- Attend meetings, take notes, and assist with preparing reports, updates, and technical documentation.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues
Essential Skills & Experience
- Some experience or foundational knowledge of ICT
- Interest in procurement and willingness to develop technical skills.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to follow technical guidance and work collaboratively within a team.
- Attention to detail and willingness to follow MOD processes and standards.
- Travel will be required across UK Naval sites.
Desirable Skills (Training Provided Where Needed)
- Exposure to ICT cabling, procurement, Wi‑Fi troubleshooting, or equipment handling.
- Awareness of MOD environments, MoDNet, or government digital standards.
- Working knowledge of ITIL, service management practices, or basic project coordination.
- Relevant technical training or certifications
