We are seeking a highly skilled Senior / Advanced Systems Engineer to join our Aircraft Engineering Integration Team in Kemble. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and integration of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems into aircraft platforms. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless system compatibility, safety, and certification readiness.
This is a critical role in advancing ZeroAvia’s mission to deliver certified, zero-emission aircraft systems for commercial use.
Key Responsibilities:
o Develop electric motor system architecture and design – inclusive of simulation, development testing activities and integration with the wider system
o Lead trade studies on electric motor architecture by applying standardised methods
o Apply skills to deliver clear, structured, and communicated systems engineering documentation across aircraft, system, and item levels
o Work closely with Airworthiness, Certification, Systems Safety, System Test, and downstream engineering to deliver lean system development in line with the guidance of ARP4754A/B and ARP4761/A
o Continuously upgrade and update process and planning documentation based on iterative maturity development
o Act as mentor across business functions on matters relating to lifecycle, development assurance, requirements management, and consistently demonstrate working-level best practice
Requirements
Qualifications:
o Please only apply if you have experience in the aviation sector
o Proficient in high-voltage, high-power electrical machine development (e.g. motors, generators)
o Demonstrated expertise in the application of Systems lifecycle processes (V-cycle), with a particular emphasis on the early phases of the V model
o Previous experience within developmental lifecycles characterized by low maturity inputs is preferred
o Previous experience in aircraft control systems (preferably engine controls), including the capture of control functions and requirements, as well as the authoring of controller specifications to facilitate item development
o Familiarity with aircraft or engine performance simulation and validation would be desirable
o A proven track record of working effectively in small, high-performance teams is essential
o Experience with certified or in-certification aircraft systems, including propeller, electrical power, flight control/avionics; or certified or in-certification powerplant systems, such as rotating components, engine control, and cooling/lubrication is considered advantageous
o Extensive experience in the elicitation, capture, and management of requirement sets at all levels (aircraft, system, item), with a focus on ensuring their validation in accordance with completeness and correctness standards
o Robust experience in the development of system architecture, functions, and interfaces, encompassing stakeholder management with downstream engineering teams, as well as assumption and risk management
o Knowledge of system safety analysis techniques (FHA, FTA, FMEA) and reliability assessments is also desired
o Considerable experience in managing systems engineering elements in software-centric environments, such as RMT (Polarion, DOORS) and CAE (Matlab Simulink, Simcenter)
o Strong aptitude for close collaboration with, and providing structure and clarity to, multiple cross-functional stakeholders. Additionally, a robust willingness to adapt based on stakeholder feedback and rigorous scrutiny is essential in this position
o Experience in aviation-intended electric propulsion systems, fuel cell systems, or EVTOLs is considered an asset
Essential Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electronic, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
o Minimum of 8 years of experience in system engineering, particularly in the aerospace sector
