Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
How’s this for job satisfaction? At Scottish Water we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.
Sound good? We’re looking for an Operational Specialist – Team Leader Supplement to join our Customer Service Delivery – Income, Admin & Team Leader Supplement Team.
The role focuses on co-ordinating the day-to-day business processes that support our out-of-hours team leader standby supplement, ensuring they’re well-managed, transparent, and consistently reliable.
This is a process-focused role that blends stakeholder engagement with a strong emphasis on data quality and reporting. You’ll be trusted with handling sensitive information and play an important part in helping the wider team operate effectively, while ensuring every step of the supplement process runs as it should.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the full lifecycle of the Team Leader Supplement process. That includes processing changes, maintaining standby rotas, tracking updates, and making sure any staffing changes are accurately recorded. You’ll work closely with colleagues across People Connect, Payroll, and leadership teams to ensure everything is up to date, clearly documented, and aligned with our governance approach.
Data plays a big part in this role. You’ll regularly analyse information across systems to identify issues, spot trends, and support decision-making. From checking the accuracy of supplement data to carrying out timely calculations that feed into payroll, you’ll make sure the right information reaches the right people—every time. You’ll also lead on data quality management and help to resolve any anomalies, keeping a clear record of all communications and actions taken.
Alongside core administration and reporting duties, you’ll support the delivery of insights around overtime worked in Customer Service Delivery, and provide additional support for the Network Support Officer (NSO) supplement scheme. When required, you’ll also contribute to project work within the team.
This role is split into between 50-60% administration, reporting and communication related duties, and 40-50% analysis which incorporates the identification of trends and articulation of insights.
What You’ll Need
You’ll bring a strong track record in managing business processes, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of accuracy. You’ll be confident working with data—extracting it from systems, analysing it for trends or issues, and presenting clear insights to a range of stakeholders.
Strong Excel and SharePoint skills are essential, and you’ll be comfortable managing multiple tasks and priorities at once. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are important, as is the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care.
It would be helpful if you have experience of pay-related administration or using tools such as Power BI or Power Apps, but these aren’t essential—we’re happy to support your development in these areas. What matters most is a proactive and organised approach, and a commitment to delivering a service others can depend on.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £44,140.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Thursday 12th June 2025.
Note – Candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to deliver a presentation outlining key trends and insights derived from a data export, which will be provided in advance.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
