Mencap have an exciting opening for an experienced Welfare Officer. The focus of this role is to ensure the welfare and pastoral needs of learners on our Supported Internship are met.

The Welfare Officer position is part time (12 hours per week) permanent contract. It will be based in Northampton with some travel required to our Supported Internship programmes are delivered to offer support.

The successful Welfare Officer will work collaboratively with all colleagues across each programme to identify where additional welfare support is required for "at risk" learners. This is to ensure they have improved wellbeing, attendance and performance and are retained on their programme.

Learners on our programmes are based in many delivery sites across the country, so the capability to provide remote assistance is essential. We require some travel to our services as required.

This role will work chiefly with delivery colleagues to increase their skills and knowledge in this area. Do you have knowledge in Safeguarding, Prevent, "Keeping Children safe in Education"? In addition, this role will work also work directly with learners and their families, as required. This may be on a 1:1 basis or as part of group sessions within local services.

Do you have the key skills and essential experience?

* Experience of dealing with mental health, safeguarding & prevent concerns
* Experience of providing pastoral care & support
* Experience of working with learners who have a learning disability, learning difficulty or autism
* Excellent communication skills and able to efficiently work with a range of internal and external stakeholders
* Knowledge of the issues facing young people statutory Safeguarding and Prevent Legislation
* Experience of working with young people in an education setting
* Well organised & self-motivated
* Experience to inspire learners and provide effective engagement and support strategies
* Training or qualifications relating to welfare/pastoral support would be desirable. For example, mental health first aid, designated safeguarding lead training, etc.
