Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Therapy Support Worker - Orthopaedics and Surgical wards. You will be expected to assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering a high quality service for patients on the surgical and orthopaedic wards in the hospital. This may involve:
* Helping patients to walk and move
* Working with patients to achieve as much independence as possible with washing/dressing/toileting tasks and with making hot drinks and meal preparation
* Assisting the therapist during treatment sessions
* Issuing mobility and functional equipment
You should have previous experience in an acute care setting.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
* To accept patients referred by the Multi-disciplinary Team and relay all necessary information to the therapists to allow timely interventions
* To accept patients referred by a qualified Therapist, treat them according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression and make alterations, within agreed parameters
* Work is not always directly supervised but is evaluated and monitored daily. Access to qualified staff is always available if required. Patients progress to be reported back on a timely basis
* To assist in the administration and clerical duties of the team
* To develop and maintain competencies through Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Qualification and training
* Education to GCSE or equivalent with grade C in English
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
Experience
* Experience as therapy assistant
* Evidence of working in a team
* Acute hospital experience
Knowledge and skills
* Working knowledge of a range of common illnesses and conditions
* Good interpersonal skills
All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering their first six months in post.
