Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a caring and dedicated Teaching Assistant experienced in supporting students with a range of additional needs including young people who are disengaged and those who display challenging behaviours .
We have an exciting opportunity to join a supportive school in Newcastle upon Tyne, (NE5). You will work closely with teachers and support staff to assist pupils in KS3 and KS4 with Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH), helping them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential.
The position is scheduled to start after the May half-term break (From 1st June). It is a full-time role, running Monday to Friday, with working hours from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students with SEMH in KS3/ KS4
Provide one-to-one and small group support in the classroom
Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
Encourage positive social and emotional development
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (preferred)
A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Relevant qualifications or training are desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for this at it is essential
At least 6 months working with children and young people in the UK
