Overview
Specialist Area Lead Radiographer, ED X-Ray and X-Ray Reject Analysis programme. We are recruiting a HCPC registered Radiographer to join the imaging team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPT) as a Band 7 Specialist Area Lead Radiographer in ED X-Ray Imaging. The post requires post-graduate NHS experience within an acute setting as a senior general radiographer with knowledge of radiography and current clinical expertise across all areas of X-ray imaging. The ED X-Ray Imaging service at UHPT encompasses a broad remit and serves as a regional trauma centre.
This role includes responsibility for the X-Ray service line and the Reject Analysis programme within the X-Ray Imaging Service remit.
Main duties
As an Area Lead Radiographer you would provide clinical excellence, liaise with service users, lead service development and manage day-to-day organisation of the clinical area while providing effective and efficient leadership. The role includes rolling Duty Floor Radiographer duties and cover in the absence of the X-Ray Imaging Service Lead Radiographer.
The department hosts undergraduate radiographers on placement from local universities and training apprentices. You will be involved in their training and supervision as part of your role and supporting the wider team, with a commitment to teaching and learner support in the clinical environment.
This position includes a commitment to Agenda for Change compliant 7-day working at Derriford Hospital and peripheral sites with flexible hours across the week.
Internal Trust staff and candidates with Priority/At Risk status in Devon who have recent relevant experience will be given preference where appropriate.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* Be professional, responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work and management of patients in your care; maintain high standards of clinical care and support colleagues similarly.
* Remain an active member of the clinical radiography team, carrying out the full range of radiographic duties to the required standard.
* Maintain imaging competencies essential for the role.
* Be competent in using the Radiology Information System, Hospital Information systems, PACS, and all routine diagnostic techniques and equipment to produce diagnostic-quality images promptly.
* Interpret clinical information to select appropriate examinations; follow departmental protocols and use professional judgement; query examinations when indications require it and advise junior staff as needed.
* Undertake imaging examinations across the Trust as part of the management team, ensuring high standards of patient care and accurate patient positioning with minimal discomfort.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers using a range of verbal and non-verbal methods; motivate patients to obtain satisfactory images on the first attempt, including those with communication difficulties.
* Provide reassurance to patients who are worried or anxious and respond thoughtfully to questions from patients and carers.
* Participate in policy and protocol development within UHPT Imaging and ensure staff implement policy and service changes.
* Collaborate with consultants and the head of service to develop the strategic and operational management of the imaging service for outpatients.
* Teach, train, supervise and performance manage junior radiographers, support workers, apprentices and students; conduct formal appraisal and assessment documentation.

Qualifications
* Essential: Current HCPC registration
* Essential: BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent

* Desirable: Awareness of NHS policies; experience leading a Reject Analysis programme; experience at Band 7 leadership level in acute settings
Aptitude & Abilities
* Essential: Ability to work with a range of personalities; HR issue experience; ability to establish rapport with patients (including children)
* Essential: Ability to produce electronic data and documents for assurance and accreditation
* Desirable: Adaptability to change; understanding of Violence and Aggression policies; ability to analyse problems and prepare reports
