Job Description
ALTEN UK is a leading engineering and technology consultancy, partnering with major organisations across the Defence, Energy, Aerospace, and Nuclear sectors. We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a cutting‑edge development programme within the nuclear energy domain. This role sits within a Mechanical Development & Prototyping (MDP) team, focusing on the design, testing, and validation of mechanical systems and test rigs supporting the development of next‑generation energy technologies.
What you’ll be doing
* Designing and supporting test rigs and mechanical development systems.
* Conducting mechanical testing, validation, and verification activities.
* Writing test plans, test cases, and technical reports.
* Applying design for manufacturability, tolerancing, and modularisation principles.
* De‑risking mechanical concepts through hands‑on testing and analysis.
* Working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary development teams.
Qualifications
* 6–10 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design or Development Engineer.
* Background in a regulated industry – Nuclear (ideal), Defence, Aerospace, or Energy.
* Understanding of systems design and engineering methods.
* Strong technical reporting and documentation skills.
* Familiarity with test rig processes and mechanical validation.
