An inside IR35 opportunity exists for an experienced Tier One/major projects Planning Manager with recent experience creating and managing programs, as well as the planning team consisting of 3 senior Planners, to create a baseline construction program for a large linear project. Experience exercising first principles planning on similar linear type projects like highways, rail track, long distance pipelines or overhead powerlines would be advantageous.
This post would ideally suit a Planner who has had previous delivery experience on large infrastructure project in the UK as a Sub Agent/Agent before achieving success as a Senior Planner/Planning Manager.
This is a major long term project however the initial contract is for 6 months. It require you to be based in the far north of Scotland for at least 4-5 days a week.
Your duties will include –
Planning & Scheduling – Develop and maintain fully resourced, logically linked programmes across all project stages.
Interface & Collaboration – Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Clients to maintain alignment and drive outcomes.
Interact daily with the project team advising and driving program milestones
Delivery Oversight – Support the management and performance of contract programmes, ensuring alignment with commercial and operational objectives.
Critical Path & Change Management – Identify project risks, analyse impacts, and implement mitigation measures with precision and confidence.
Reporting & Insights – Provide regular planning updates, progress reports, KPIs, and strategic insights to project leadership.
Requirements for this opportunity includes -
Preferably a qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
Proven experience in a senior planning or planning amanager's role on major infrastructure/linear type projects.
Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject, alongside Excel and reporting tools.
Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA methodologies.
Proven previous management experience managing a team of Senior Planners
An analytical mindset with a sharp eye for programme risk and opportunity.
Strong communication skills to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
Willing to base yourself in the north of Scotland for 6 months +.
