JOB TITLE: R&D Product Designer
REPORTING TO: Development or Expert Center Manager or Advance Innovation Manager
LOCATION: Norwich, UK- Onsite
Scope
The R&D Product Designer role is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing new products that align with our company’s strategic goals. This position requires a blend of creative design skills, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of market trends to bring innovative products to life.
About the team
The R&D Innovation & Sustainability team within the division of CPI is composed of experienced professionals dedicated to advancing the company’s innovation and sustainability goals. With allocations in multiple geographies having expertise across Healthcare, Homecare, Food, Beverage, Beauty and Wellness; with focus on:
* Sustainability: Implement and scale sustainable business practices across operations and value chain, focusing on reducing environmental impact while maximizing circularity and enhancing value creation.
* Product Innovation: Creating new and improved packaging designs that meet the evolving needs of customers across various industries.
* Cost Innovation: Value creation by reducing the costs associated with producing or delivering a product or service, while maintaining or improving its quality and performance.
Key Function Responsibilities
* Generate innovative product concepts based on market research, customer feedback, and emerging trends.
* Create detailed design specifications, sketches, and prototypes using CAD software and other design tools.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, marketing, and manufacturing to ensure design feasibility and alignment with business objectives.
* Conduct product testing and iterate designs based on feedback and performance data.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
* Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and materials to continuously bring fresh ideas to the table to be presented to the R&D Expert Centers team on a quarterly basis.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes, specifications, and project progress.
Key performance indicators
* Tracks the number of innovative product ideas generated within a specific period.
* Measures the time taken to move from concept to prototype, indicating efficiency in the design process.
* Measure the percentage of prototypes that successfully pass testing phases and move to the next stage of development.
* Evaluates the financial return generated from new products relative to the investment made in their development.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in an R&D environment.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, KeyShot, etc).
* Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Project management experience is a plus.
