SEN Teaching Assistant One-to-One Support (Rolling Contract)
Contract: Rolling contract until the end of the next academic year
Start Date: September Start
Hours: 8:30am 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (arrival for 8am is strongly encouraged)
Training: Fortnightly, Wednesdays from 3:45pm to 4:30pm (compulsory)
About the Role
Barclay Primary School is seeking a patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a calmer child who requires personal care, including nappy changing. This pupil loves to talk about aeroplanes and benefits from ongoing guidance to remain focused on tasks. The successful candidate will encourage positive engagement, help the child enjoy activities such as the sensory room, and support transitions when it is time to move to other areas or activities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent one-to-one support, ensuring the pupil feels safe and supported throughout the day.
Assist with all aspects of personal care, including nappy changing, in line with safeguarding and dignity policies.
Engage the pupil in conversation about their interests and use these to motivate and encourage learning.
Support the pupil in the sensory room and help them transition calmly back to class activities.
Follow individual support plans and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
Attend fortnightly training sessions to continue developing your skills and share good practice with colleagues.
Keep the classroom tidy, ensure you have all personal belongings when leaving, and prepare for the following day.
Requirements
Previous experience working with children who require personal care is essential.
A patient, caring and supportive approach, with the ability to provide gentle guidance and motivation.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Punctuality and a professional approach, including adhering to the schools dress code.
Additional Information
There is no parking available at the school, so please plan your journey accordingly.
Staff are expected to arrive by 8am to ensure they are fully prepared for the school day.
Fortnightly training sessions on Wednesdays from 3:45pm to 4:30pm are compulsory and provide valuable opportunities for professional development and collaboration.
The schools dress code must be followed at all times to maintain a high standard of professionalism.
