Overview
The Domestic Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that cleaning services at the Trust site, community locations and contracted sites are timely, efficient and meet National Standards of Cleanliness 2021. The role involves compliance with CQC, national guidance and legislation, and close collaboration with Facilities, clinical and non‑clinical areas and Infection Prevention teams to provide safe and effective cleaning.
Responsibilities
* Deliver cost‑effective domestic services within the hospital and community sites, ensuring compliance with National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness and monitoring bodies such as PLACE.
* Provide specialist advice on cleaning methods, legislation, infection control and statutory regulations.
* Manage, develop and support the Deputy Manager, supervisors and domestic/laundry staff, ensuring training, motivation and a professional approach.
* Define clear responsibilities for all managed staff and maintain optimum staffing levels using technology to assess capacity and demand.
* Oversee staff rosters, annual leave and record absences.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree level or equivalent professional experience in Soft Services.
* Management qualification or equivalent professional experience.
* Senior supervisory or managerial role in Facilities or a related environment.
* Experience setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
* Knowledge of risk management, governance, budgetary and resource management.
* Leadership skills to set vision and drive future service development.
* Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience delivering training at all levels and managing a significant workforce.
* Knowledge of NHS National Cleaning Standards and contract management.
Desirable
* Experience of contract management.
