Role overview
The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System – a system that manages one of three major flows within the Airport (the others being aircraft and passenger). This involves full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of one of Gatwick's operationally critical infrastructure systems.
The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
* Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability, achieving against OBP / CSS metrics.
* Promote EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and foster a safe working environment.
* Produce effective communication and reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operations.
* Manage costs and contracts to ensure adherence to operational budgets.
Candidate requirements
* Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline preferred; HND in engineering with significant experience accepted.
* Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes protect employees and contractors.
* Experience in leading, managing, and developing baggage teams aligned with Gatwick's strategic priorities.
* Ability to ensure system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
* Experience leading failure investigations to determine root causes impacting baggage systems and operations.
