Applications are invited for a substantive, part-time 4 PA Specialty Doctor post in Integrated Sexual Health.
The post is based within the Somerset Wide Integrated Sexual Health Service (SWISH). Somerset Foundation NHS Trust has been successful in securing the bid to deliver the integrated sexual health services for Somerset from April 2024 with direct award to 2028 and potential for a further 12-month extension.
As part of the service delivery plan SWISH committed to opening a second hub in Yeovil which will be opening in February 2026, so this is an exciting time to join us as we develop and deliver our service delivery model.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to provide clinical care for our local population across Somerset.
The successful candidate will work primarily in the East of the county between Frome and the new hub in Yeovil but with some flexibility if needed.
They will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including two GU & HIV consultants, two SRH consultants, the existing specialty doctor in integrated sexual health and HIV, as well as our experienced nurses and nurse advisers.

Main Duties of the Post
Clinical Duties
Diagnosis, treatment and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in line with BASHH guidance and local SOPs
Counselling on all aspects of STIs for patients and their partners/family members
Sexual health promotion including risk reduction advice and provision of relevant vaccines
Assessment for and provision of post-exposure prophylaxis (HIV PEPSE and DoxyPEP) and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV infection
To work with colleagues in other specialties for the benefit of the patient
To actively contribute to MDTs and clinical meetings
Counselling and provision of all methods of contraception, including emergency contraception, in line with CoSRH guidelines and local SOPs.
Provision of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) including insertion and removal of contraceptive implants and intrauterine contraceptive devices.
Supervision and support for multidisciplinary team providing sexual health and contraception care and liaise with senior staff where needed
Counsel and advise on termination of pregnancy and refer/signpost to appropriate services.
Educational Supervision and Teaching
Provide high quality teaching to undergraduates, postgraduates, nurses and other clinical staff together with other members of the medical staff.
Take part in educational activities within SWISH, and for other health care professionals e.g. fitters forum, GP training day etc.
Take part in the protected departmental teaching for clinical staff.
Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
Research
Research is encouraged, particularly when this is appropriate to the professional development of the successful candidate and to the service development of the department. Opportunities are available within the Trust with applications for funding coordinated by the Trust's Medical Director.
Clinical Audit
The appointee will be expected to actively participate in audit. He/she will be expected to initiate and supervise audit projects related to his/her area of practice. He/she will liaise with the audit Specialty Lead and ensure all audit projects, including Trust directed audit, are approved by the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee. Participation in national audit is encouraged.
Clinical Governance
All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organizations' regarding supervision.
To be aware of and comply with the Trust's policies and procedures relating to Clinical Governance and Health and Safety at Work.
To support the Clinical Governance programme for the service, cascade good clinical practice guidance of BASHH, Faculty of SRH & NICE to the team and contribute to development of local guidelines, SOPs and PGDs.
To become familiar with local clinical policies, guidelines, and protocols, and contribute to implementation within the service.
To participate in the Trust's incident reporting process using RADAR, particularly in respect of the reporting of clinical incidents.
To actively seek patient and user opinion in the development and delivery of patient care.

Maintain own professional development and participate in the Trust's appraisal and job planning process.
To fulfil requirements for recertification of qualifications as set out by the relevant National Body, Royal College or Faculty.
